Mr. Zhang Xiantang

As the Deputy Director of the Dunhuang Academy, Mr. Zhang Xiantang has managed the preservation of many Dunhuang artifacts and caves. Join us as he speaks in the Bello Center about how the Dunhuang Academy is working to digitalize Dunhuang artifacts so they can be categorized and easily accesable. 

Mr. Xiantang Zhang graduated from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature in the Northwest Normal University in 1982. In 1987 he then obtained a Master of Arts degree in ancient literature from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature in Shanxi Normal University. Since 1994, Mr. Zhang has spent 23 years on the research of Dunhuang Studies at Dunhuang Academy. He is currently the deputy director, a research fellow, and a professor of relics and museology at the Dunhuang Academy. Mr. Zhang is also the deputy Chairman of China Association of Dunhuang and Turfan Studies and a member of the board of China Dunhuang Grottoes Conservation Research Foundation.
