Signed, X Photo Display

Kate Ryan is a RI native currently based in New York City. She is an international human rights journalist and photographer covering immigration, gender violence, criminal justice and women’s health.

Her latest project, Signed, X was born so that survivors of sexual violence could share their stories; the many ways violence has impacted them, their experiences around disclosing, and the hard work they’ve done to heal from their trauma. These are the words of long-term survivors, and they are edited from interviews and reordered for clarity. Finally, they are signed with a first name or initial to protect the privacy of that individual.

The exhibition is traveling to various RI colleges during Spring 2019 and will be featured at Bryant University in the Douglas & Judith Krupp Library the week of April 15 through April 19 as a part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Sponsored by the Hochberg Women's Center and Library Services.
